#SpotlightOnShipping sees Maritime CEO in conversation with industry pioneers to tackle decarbonisation agenda. A new video series bringing together pioneers from across the shipping industry to tackle some of the most pressing challenges confronting shipping's decarbonisation efforts has been launched by DNV GL - Maritime.
'Spotlight on Shipping' sees Maritime CEO, Knut Ørbeck-Nilssen, in conversation with industry pioneers to hear their insights about how their organisations are working to comply with the IMO's ambitious Green House Gas strategy.
Best practices
Ørbeck-Nilssen and Henderson are discussing how Shell is progressing with its decarbonisation journey
The series aims to offer shipping stakeholders insights and showcase best practices for answering what Ørbeck-Nilssen has dubbed the 'grand challenge of the time'. The first episode sees Ørbeck-Nilssen in conversation with Dr. Grahaeme Henderson, Shell's Global Head of Shipping and Maritime.
Among the topics discussed by Ørbeck-Nilssen and Henderson are how Shell is progressing with its decarbonisation journey, Shell's collaborations with the wider industry to achieve reduced GHG emissions, and the kinds of fuels and technologies Shell is investing in.
Reduce CO2 emissions
Consistent with the Paris Agreement temperature goals, the IMO's current GHG strategy envisages a reduction in the carbon intensity of international shipping (to reduce CO2 emissions per transport work, as an average across international shipping, by at least 40% by 2030, pursuing efforts towards 70% by 2050, compared to 2008)
It also states that total annual GHG emissions from international shipping should be reduced by at least 50% by 2050 compared to 2008.
