SMS-SME has designed and produced side rolling hatch covers from 80,000 DWT to over 325,000 DWT grain, coal, ore and even combined oil carrier for customer’s satisfaction. Side rolling-type hatch cover is operated by rack gear installed in the transverse direction at the bottom center of each panel which is engaged with the Pinion gear located on the outside of the side deck. Rack & Pinion enable independent drive and allow opening/closing as required. It is optionally available either with auto-roll up system or without it by manual cleat operation for simple and cost saving requirement from the customers. Chain driven type is also available and both arms are connected with chain to operate the two panels on the right and left concurrently. The hatch cover can be operated in both directions using the low-speed hydraulic motor installed on the deck. The Auto-roll up device can be applied like Rack & Pinion driven Hatch Covers.
