Team Electric rose to some special challenges in its successful completion of electrical installation and refit work during Royal Caribbean’s recent high profile drydocking and ‘amplification’ of Allure of the Seas. Despite heavy weather, tight deadlines, and complex coordination across multiple contractors and workstreams, Team Electric showcased its hallmark adaptability and technical expertise to deliver the full scope of work on schedule. Three turnkey suppliers With a total workforce of 60 skilled electricians on site, Team Electric was engaged separately by three turnkey suppliers — Almaco, Makinen, and LMG — to execute electrical works across hotel areas, galleys, and public spaces on board the cruise ship. The project marked a return to familiar territory for Team Electric, which was also involved in the original construction of Allure of the Seas in Turku Shipyard in 2009. Project highlights Team Electric delivered full electrical works for the new Mason Jar restaurant and bar Achievements included the installation of 121 kilometres of electrical cabling and 4,500 metres of cable trays, across a project involving key technical areas as well as substantial hotel work. Among tasks that extended to 600 individual material line items, Team Electric fitted nearly 2,000 lights. The company’s hotel-side scope covered 61 new cabins on decks 11, 12, and 14 that were built within a prefabricated aluminium block and craned onto the ship. These new spaces included corridors, AC rooms, and associated technical infrastructure. In addition, Team Electric delivered full electrical works for the new Mason Jar restaurant and bar, as well as several refurbished galley spaces and three public areas including a Crown Lounge and a teens’ gaming zone. On the technical side, Team Electric upgraded a substantial portion of the ship’s navigation and communication systems, including the full cabling of the bridge with 9 kilometres of new wiring. A turnkey delivery of Fugro’s OceanStar system included not just cabling but also installation, commissioning, and user training, led by certified Team Electric engineers. Rising to the challenge “The weather was brutal. 30 days of torrential rain in a 40-day dry dock,” said Daniel Brown, Project Manager at Team Electric. “It had a knock-on effect on every trade, but we managed to push through and keep the program on track.” Meticulous planning and on-the-ground flexibility, Team Electric met all critical deadlines High winds frequently delayed crane operations and other key activities. Yet, through meticulous planning and on-the-ground flexibility, Team Electric met all critical deadlines. The project’s compressed dry dock period presented a further challenge. As Caj Persson, Technical Project Lead, explained: “They cut the dry dock time compared to the sister vessel Oasis of the Seas by over 10 days. That meant everything had to be done faster, with no compromise on quality.” Reliability pays Team Electric’s proven reputation in cruise ship refits was a key factor in securing the contract. “We’re well known in the industry for delivering complex and multi-faceted electrical refits, especially cabins and public areas,” said Daniel Brown. “We’re not always the cheapest, but clients know we get the job done on time and to the highest standards.” Fourth contractor with no onboard electrical team asked Team Electric to step in and support their work That reliability also paid off during the refit, when a fourth contractor with no onboard electrical team asked Team Electric to step in and support their work, sparking another relationship that is set to continue beyond this project. The working relationship with Royal Caribbean also proved crucial. “We know the fleet, we’ve been with them since these keels were laid,” said Persson. “That familiarity, and our long-standing relationship with partners like Foreship, made the coordination smoother, even under pressure.” Integrated installation Unlike newbuilds, refits present constantly shifting priorities and constraints. As Daniel Brown explained: “In public areas especially, we can’t even install light fittings until the ceiling is in. It takes extreme coordination. Every task affects the next.” From cabin design to bridge cabling, and from substations to galleys, the Allure of the Seas project exemplifies Team Electric’s full-spectrum capabilities. By blending technical know-how with practical execution, the company once again proved why it's the preferred electrical partner for cruise ship refits worldwide.
Team Electric Group has earmarked Romania as a focal point for collaboration with domestic and regional shipyards, and as a new source of highly skilled electrical specialists to serve its continuing global expansion. The European turnkey engineering group recently formalised the basis for its activities in Romania by establishing Team Electric (Romania), with head offices in Galati. The new company brings together some well-known marine engineering professionals based in Romania, headed by Managing Director Lucian Achimfiev and Deputy Technical Director Petrică Crăciun. Exciting career prospects Team Electric waited until securing its first parcel of engineering, design, and facility services “We are ambitious to develop Romania as a centre of excellence within Team Electric, so that Romanian yards retain more value-add and completion work in-country, while homegrown engineering talent joins an international business with exciting career prospects,” commented Mattias Jörgensen, CEO of the Team Electric Group. Mattias Jörgensen said that, after establishing the Romanian enterprise, Team Electric had waited until securing its first package of engineering, design, installation and commissioning services work from an international customer before breaking cover. Extensive electrical systems “Team Electric Romania has been growing month by month, adding electricians, design engineers, service engineers and planners, to build a strong and balanced team with the experience to manage a range of projects,” said Mattias Jörgensen. An undisclosed international yard partner had contracted Team Electric (Romania) to install extensive electrical systems on board a multi-role patrol platform. Romania - a key market for Team Electric “As a provider of turnkey electrical solutions for shipyards worldwide, securing our first contracts in Romania is clearly highly significant for Team Electric, especially given that the workload includes some very advanced systems,” said Mattias Jörgensen. He adds, “Our aim is always to work with our yard partners to find the technical, commercial and service solutions that best meet their needs, for coastguards, cruise ship or ferry owners, or for any type of merchant ship.”
Team Electric has signed an agreement with Remontowa Shiprepair Yard, Gdansk to provide electric systems consultancy and installation services for three Polsteam Ro-Pax ferries, in support of the project marking the extension of the Polish yard’s services to the new building market. The three-year agreement coincides with the Finnish turnkey engineering solutions provider opening Team Electric (Poland), Gdynia as a subsidiary. Battery power and hybrid propulsion With a capacity of 4100 lane metres and 400 passengers, the three ships represent an auspicious debut for Remontowa as a new building yard, given their use of liquefied natural gas as a fuel and the integration of battery power and state-of-the-art hybrid propulsion systems. Two will be operated by Unity Line, with the third for Polferries. The first 195.6m ship is due for delivery by the end of 2025. Strategic relationship On each Polsteam ship, Team Electric personnel will project manage bridge systems installation (including navigation and satcomms), as well as provide solutions for air conditioning rooms, the emergency generator room, crew accommodation, and across several ship-wide applications. “This is a decisive step for Team Electric in Poland and establishes a strategic relationship with Remontowa,” said Mattias Jörgensen, CEO of Team Electric. Electrical systems Remontowa’s ship repair and conversion activities currently lead to around 200 ships docking per year Mattias Jörgensen adds, “Electrical systems are a key deliverable on any new building, repair, or conversion project. Conversations we are having with clients indicate that the Team Electric-Remontowa combination will also be a highly attractive proposition where energy efficiency projects for existing ships are concerned.” Remontowa’s ship repair and conversion activities currently lead to around 200 ships docking per year. Employment opportunities Team Electric’s new Polish subsidiary will be managed by Dawid Janik, Director Procurement, Team Electric, whose tasks include simplifying and enhancing hiring arrangements for workers domiciled in Poland, whether engaged at home yards, at other European yards, or beyond. “Establishing Team Electric S.A. as a separate entity in Poland made perfect sense at this time, and it will strengthen the ties we have developed over many years with Poland’s talented shipyard workforce, to develop employment opportunities locally and as a core part of the skills pool supporting our global activities,” stated Mattias Jörgensen.
