As part of Wrist’s commitment to support the Global Goals (Sustainable Development Goals) in reducing food loss by 50% by 2030, some of our branches tell us how they are taking action.

Their branches in Long Beach and Strachans are donating excess food provisions to food banks, people experiencing food insecurities and to individuals in the local community. Their warehouse at the Aalborg branch have partnered with Nordjysk Fødevareoverskud, a Danish non-profit organisation that redistributes excess food stock to vulnerable people in the community.

Experiencing food insecurities

Over the last 18 months, Wrist has supported this initiative, by donating excess food provisions to Nordjysk Fødevareoverskud, who focuses on sustainability and social responsibility, through collecting food surplus and distributing it throughout social organisations to families and individuals who are in economic and social need.

Bente Schjødt, General Manager from Nordjysk Fødevareoverskud told us “As a social environmental project we are struggling to help both people in need and the environment by distributing surplus food. We are very happy to work with Wrist Ship Supply. Since January 2020 we have received nearly 4 tons of edible food and we are looking forward to expand the partnership in the future.”

Reducing food waste

Every week, Nordjysk Fødevareoverskud collects the surplus the warehouse has gathered, which includes vegetables, meat, fish, dairy and non-dairy products and snacks.

Jesper Gajhede, Inventory Manager states, “This is a great way to give back to the community, whilst supporting the battle against food waste. We know only too well the importance of ensuring that communities, whether out at sea, or in our local area have food on their table each day, and this is why we support this initiative from Nordjysk Fødevareoverskud.”

They are very grateful to Nordjysk Fødevareoverskud for offering this service, and they are pleased to support. They are proud to be a part of this, along with the other partners in the local area, who support this worthy cause in reducing food waste and supporting the local community.
