WEG and Eletrobras were present at CIGRE Paris 2024, where Engineer - Mateus Alexandrino, from the Transmission Department of the Vice-Presidency of Engineering and Expansion of Eletrobras, made a presentation about the reliability of protection, automation and control systems (PACS) associated with redundancy and system condition monitoring.

WEG and Eletrobras partnership

The work between WEG and Eletrobras addresses the modernisation process of the Itajaí substation, located in southern Brazil.

The modernisation includes the digitalisation of the substation's protection and control systems

The modernisation includes the digitalisation of the substation's protection and control systems, with a focus on the application of process bus technologies and real-time monitoring, essential for compliance with the new regulatory requirements of the National Electric System Operator (ONS), in force since June 2024.

Modernisation of the Itajaí substation

The solution for modernising the Itajaí substation, which has been operating for over 20 years with voltage levels of 230 kV and 138 kV, was highlighted, and includes advanced digital systems, including the implementation of segregated communication buses with PRP (Parallel Redundancy Protocol) and RSTP (Rapid Spanning Tree Protocol) protocols.

The SPCS (Protection, Control and Supervision System) of the Itajaí Substation includes the use of independent hardware for monitoring communication networks, capable of detecting anomalies in the process and station buses, analysing GOOSE (Generic Object-Oriented Substation Event), SV (Sampled Values) and MMS (Manufacturing Message Specification) messages, fully meeting the requirements of the sub-modules of the ONS network procedures.

CIGRE Paris Session 2024

The CIGRE Paris Session 2024 event brought together experts from several countries to share best practices in the development of cutting-edge technological solutions, promoting innovation and operational safety of SPCS supplied by WEG and applied in the modernisation of digital substations as done at the Itajaí Substation.
