OceanWise team undertook an installation in July 2023 for the UK Hydrographic Office in Anguilla, a British Overseas Territory in the Caribbean.

The successful trip formed part of the Marine Environmental Monitoring Systems (MEMS) – A 3-year framework agreement that OceanWise has been contracted to complete by the UK Hydrographic Office, which includes a variety of installations, provision of a data platform, shore control, and GNSS surveys, as well as local training and mentoring.

Navigational safety and knowledge

The MEMS project aims to improve navigational safety and knowledge of the marine environment and assist with scientific research into understanding the implications of climate change.

The MEMS in Anguilla supports the wider project that the UKHO is doing in this region, explained in their article titled “Exploring Anguilla’s marine environment through geospatial data” (June 2023) which details the wider project and explores how the data that the project provides, supports #safenavigation.
