By popular demand, Maritime Week Africa (MWAF24) returns to Cape Town, South Africa, in January 2024 for its 16th edition, after a hugely successful event in January this year, which broke all previous attendance records. 

Maritime Week Africa, the longest-running and most popular bunkering event on the African continent, will bring together the highest-level industry and government speakers to deliver an information-packed conference focussed on the uniquely diverse African shipping, energy, and bunkering sectors. 

Addressing South African bunker markets

Special attention will be given to the uncertainties facing the South African bunker markets, while the opportunities to embrace and exploit new fuels and technologies within Southern Africa and beyond will also be covered extensively.

There will also be, for the first time, a special session on diversity in maritime, run by the South African branch of the Women’s International Shipping & Trading Association (WISTA) and sponsored by local bunker supplier - Linsen Nambi.

MWAF24 will offer expert training on shipping’s new fuels and the industry’s pathways to decarbonisation, with the well-established ship. energy Alternative Fuels Course, and the event will once again celebrate the spirit and friendship of the global bunkering community with some spectacular networking.

Llewellyn Bankes-Hughes, CEO and Founder of Petrospot, the organiser of Maritime Week Africa, says, "Since its inception, MWAF has aimed to bring together the most important players in the sub-Saharan shipping and bunkering markets to discuss the key issues and confront difficult problems face to face to enhance transparency within this sector and encourage greater cooperation between its main stakeholders."

Offerings of Africa

Llewellyn Bankes-Hughes adds, "MWAF has been run regularly in Cape Town and once in Durban but also many times in Accra, Ghana. On each occasion, speakers and delegates from the entire African continent, as well as the Middle East, Asia, and Europe, have come to MWAF to find out more about the great opportunities that Africa offers."

He continues, "MWAF24, held on 23-25 January 2024 at the Table Bay Hotel in Cape Town, is already set to be the most well-attended to date and we are all looking forward to a week of exceptional thought leadership and a strong focus on this amazing continent."
