imageHOLDERS’ bespoke kiosk technology has helped Lufthansa Cargo streamline its delivery processes at a time of numerous challenges for the airfreight industry.

Founded in 1994, Lufthansa Cargo is one of the airfreight companies, employing around 4200 people worldwide and servicing 300 destinations in more than 100 countries. The company is continuously investing in state-of-the-art technologies to enhance sustainability and efficiency; when it needed to improve its shipping handling process, it turned to imageHOLDERS’ unique self-service kiosk solutions.

Additional device integration

The two companies worked together during the United Kingdom’s exit from the European Union, which caused widespread disruption in travel, deliveries and manufacturing. Despite the disruption, positive cooperation and collaboration ensured these challenges were addressed and overcome across this difficult period.

Lufthansa Cargo has successfully deployed 21 imageHOLDERS K Series kiosks

Lufthansa Cargo has successfully deployed 21 imageHOLDERS K Series kiosks, complete with additional device integration, around the world. The most recent iH kiosk deployment was completed in Frankfurt in June; two further kiosks are on order to be deployed in a new refrigerated cargo department.

Delivery process change

Since deployment of the imageHOLDERS kiosks, Lufthansa Cargo has seen the entire acceptance and delivery process change. Driver data is now recorded much faster and the processing of truck drivers is far more organised and orderly.

Lufthansa is also seeing the added benefit of readily available data and they can track the performance at different times, so they can continue to improve and optimise efficiency.

We've been working with imageHOLDERS for a number of years now to give our customers the ability to pre-register and shorten their stay with us. Since then, we have also been able to improve our internal handling times and simplify the process. Based on this experience, we plan to roll out more kiosks in other departments soon,” says Lufthansa Cargo Application Manager, Yannik Kilb.

Robust self-service kiosk

Lufthansa were always a pleasure to work with and the technological understanding was clear"

Christian Bosence, imageHOLDERS Senior Account Manager, said “When Lufthansa Cargo reached out to us, we immediately knew we could help them bring technology together into an ergonomic, secure and robust self-service kiosk to help solve the problem at hand.”

Christian Bosenc adds, “After a number of detailed scoping and idea generation workshops, imageHOLDERS were able to advise our best solution recommendations, which then got taken into production and to market quickly. Lufthansa were always a pleasure to work with and the technological understanding was clear throughout all departments. I’m looking forward to the next project!”

Receiving and delivering shipments

The goal was to further optimise Lufthansa Cargo’s handling times, for both internal employees and truck drivers, when receiving and delivering shipments. Using technology would allow the process to be clearer, quicker and eradicate the risk of human error.

Lufthansa Cargo approached imageHOLDERS with this brief. A thorough consultation process allowed the airfreight company to hone exactly what it needed from self-service technology and a detailed design and complete kiosk solution was agreed.

Integration of the additional devices

The resulting bespoke kiosk enclosure hosts an Access IS ATOM Passport Scanner, Aures 15.6” AOI Touchscreen PC and Custom VKP80 Thermal Printer. The secure integration of the additional devices was crucial to the functioning of the solution.

A QR code was captured on the passport scanner ensuring that the drivers did not need to spend time re-entering data and their specific app could be quickly updated without time-consuming manual interaction.
