The Shipping industry expertise and history come together for London International Shipping Week (LISW25) in the form of Lloyd’s Register which has just signed up for the 2025 running of this popular industry event.

In its role as Blue Sapphire Legacy Sponsor, Lloyd’s Register brings more than 260 years of trusted worldwide professionalism and strong industry relationships to LISW25.

Efficiency, and resilience

Central to its input will be a strong commitment to sustainability, efficiency, and resilience in the ocean economy.  As humanity faces some of its greatest challenges, including population growth, climate change, and rapid technological developments, there is an urgent need to achieve net-zero emissions by 2050. In this pivotal race, the ocean is a vital resource that plays a crucial role in meeting these challenges.

Lloyd’s Register’s technical and business advisory services enable shipping businesses to reach their full potential in present times and into the future. With offices across the globe, the organisation offers clients advice, support, and solutions during every stage of the asset lifecycle across the maritime value chain.

Partnership and innovation

Dominic Miller, LR Senior Representative UK, and Ireland, said, “As the first-ever sponsor of LISW, Lloyd’s Register has consistently recognised the significant value that this flagship event offers for bringing together maritime leaders from across the world. We are confident that the 2025 edition will continue to foster collaboration amongst key industry stakeholders and yet again deliver opportunities for partnership and innovation.”

LISW Co-Founder and joint CEO, Llewellyn Bankes-Hughes, added, “We are delighted that Lloyd’s Register is on board for LISW25 as the Blue Sapphire Legacy Sponsor, underlying its dedication to the maritime sector and ensuring – through its continuing strong support – that this event will again be one of the biggest, most inclusive and most popular shipping events in the world.

Sad Farewell to Julian Clark

The LISW team was saddened to learn of the passing of prominent shipping industry lawyer Julian Clark

The LISW team was saddened to learn of the passing of prominent shipping industry lawyer Julian Clark who has died after a short battle with cancer.

Knowledgeable, successful, and at times outspoken Julian lived his career and his life with gusto. His most recent role was vice president and senior legal adviser at Norwegian P&I Club Gard. Before this, he occupied senior roles at Ince & Co, Hill Dickinson, and HFW, and was a founder of Campbell Johnston Clark.

LISW CEO comments

Llewellyn Bankes Hughes, co-founder and joint CEO of LISW, said, “Julian was a force of nature with boundless enthusiasm, energy, and a great sense of humour. He brought his extensive industry expertise to numerous LISW panel discussions.” One of Julian’s passions was music and he was an accomplished musician, singer, and songwriter.

LISW was very fortunate to have him and members of his band perform a live set during the gala dinner of London International Shipping Week in 2019 where he gave rousing renditions of several London-related songs. He was also a committed humanitarian with a big heart. After the outbreak of war in Ukraine he hosted two refugee families at his UK home and he recorded a moving song, Putin’s War, with his band Love Street, to raise funds for charities helping Ukrainian seafarers and their families.
