David McGinley, Chief Executive Officer of Cammell Laird Shiprepairers and Shipbuilders, and Atlantic & Peninsula Marine Services has won Business Leader of the Year in the British Ex-Forces in Business Awards.
The British Ex-Forces Business Awards, which took place on the 23rd of June, celebrates the achievements of ex-forces personnel who have forged a successful second career in business. The awards also strive to demonstrate the huge value veterans bring to UK business.
David McGinley
David has a proud record of serving his country in the Royal Navy for a quarter of a century. David joined the Royal Navy in 1971 as a Junior Marine Engineering Mechanic, Class 2, having been inspired to join the military by the service of family members.
During his 25 years of service, David served onboard HMS Ship Tiger, Abdiel, Amazon, Middleton, and York as well as spending time in the Falklands and the Middle East. He left the Military in 1995 at the rank of Warrant Officer Marine Engineer (M).
UK-based marine services
More latterly, both in his roles with Semple Cochrane and Babcock, David amassed a wealth of experience
Post his Naval service, David spent four years at Turner Diesel Ltd developing power generation contracts in Columbia, Malaysia, and Africa and overseeing a newly built 26 MW power plant in New Delhi.
More latterly, both in his roles with Semple Cochrane and Babcock, David amassed a wealth of experience in UK-based marine services, managing ship repair and dry dock facilities and associated businesses.
Ship repair activities and operations
David Joined A&P Group in 2017 as Group Managing Director responsible for all ship repair activities and operations in the UK. He became an Executive Director as Managing Director of Atlantic and Peninsula Marine Services Ltd in 2018 and was appointed Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of Cammell Laird Ship Repairers and Shipbuilders Ltd, Atlantic & Peninsula Marine Services in March 2020.
Commenting on his award, David said, “The values instilled in me throughout my Naval service – commitment, self-discipline, teamwork, flexibility and openness – have hugely influenced my civilian career.

“I have relished my time in the Navy and industry, and I am delighted to receive this award, which recognises both my military service and my business career. I would like to congratulate all of the other winners and finalists, the event was a great celebration of all those ex-forces who add value to the business – here in the UK and across the globe.”
David is a visiting Professor at the University of Strathclyde in Scotland and is a past President of the UK Shipbuilders and Ship Repairers Association, past Chair of the Association of British Offshore Industries, and a Director of the Society of Maritime Industries.
