Last week, Cammell Laird welcomed Commodore David Eagles, Head of the Royal Fleet Auxiliary (RFA), to its facility.

Cdre David Eagles joined the RFA in 1988 and has served for over 30 years on various seagoing and staff appointments. Prior to taking up his promotion and appointment as COMRFA, his last sea-going Command was RFA FORT VICTORIA.

Four RFA vessels

The visit included a tour of Cammell Laird’s facility, where the commodore had the opportunity to view the four RFA vessels currently undergoing work in the wet basin.

Since 2008, Cammell Laird has provided in-service support to the Royal Fleet Auxiliary under the Cluster support Contract. The team has supported vessels from the RFA Fort-Class, Wave-Class and Tide-Class. In 2023, RFA Proteus and RFA Stirling Castle were also added to the cluster.

Relationship with the Royal Fleet Auxiliary

Cammell Laird is proud of the role it has played in supporting the RFA fleet. Now the APCL Group maintains 100% of the RFA flotilla.

David McGinley, Chief Executive of APCL Group, said: “Cammell Laird and the wider APCL Group are proud of its ongoing relationship with the Royal Fleet Auxiliary. We have maintained strong links with the commodore during his leadership and have witnessed his incredible achievements over the years."
