Cammell Laird has recently appointed two new finance apprentices and is seeking two more in an exciting expansion of its finance department.

Cammell Laird Shiprepairers and Shipbuilders Ltd have a proud history of training apprentices in a number of trades across the business and into full-time positions.

AAT at various levels

Finance apprentices at Cammell Laird spend one day a week at Wirral Met College, and the rest gaining hands-on experience within the organisation.

Gemma Swift, Finance Director at Cammell Laird, said: “This is certainly an exciting time for the business, once the recruitment process has been completed, Cammell Laird will have four individuals studying for their Association of Accounting Technicians (AAT) at various levels at Wirral Met college, out of 12 roles in total across the department.”

Newest finance apprentices

Lewis was drawn to the role due his strong interest in ships, the maritime sector

One of the newest finance apprentices is Lewis Nuttall, who is following in the footsteps of numerous family members who have worked at the facility.

Lewis was drawn to the role due his strong interest in ships, the maritime sector and his aspiration for a career in finance, describing the opportunity to work at Cammell Laird as a ‘no-brainer’.

Cammell Laird apprenticeship programme

He said: “I chose the apprenticeship because I want to be challenged, working with customers such as the Royal Navy and MoD is an exciting prospect and highlights the challenging nature of the business."

Alexandra Saunders who has also started her finance apprenticeship, added: “The Cammell Laird apprenticeship programme has given me the flexibility to study whilst working, to enable career progression and to allow me to further support the finance department.”
