Brunvoll has secured an important contract, as a result of its strategic and extensive development of azimuth propulsion systems. The contract with a foreign navy includes propulsion systems for four vessels. The dredgers will serve both the naval and civil needs for dredging of ports and other shallow waters.

The vessels are 86 metres long and will have a crew of 14 people. All vessels will be built at local shipyards in the customer's home country.

Brunvoll azimuth propulsion units

Brunvoll’s deliveries consist of two azimuth propulsion units, each 900 kW, one tunnel thruster of  600 kW, and associated control systems, per ship set.

This contract is another proof that Brunvoll has the capability to succeed in strong international competition"

Brunvoll’s Sales Director, Per Olav Løkseth, said “This contract is another proof that Brunvoll has the capability to succeed in strong international competition. Our long-term and strategic commitment to product development combined with targeted sales and marketing work gives us breakthroughs in ever new markets and segments.

He adds, “The contract is an important contribution to strengthening our position in the azimuth propulsion segment. Working for new customer in a new market is extra rewarding and motivating.

Dredgers operating under demanding conditions

The dredgers operate under demanding conditions and the equipment on board requires excellent operating characteristics and high quality. The deliveries also represent an important contribution to their factory utilisation in Molde, Norway, in 2022, which is very positive for their employees.

Per Olav Løkseth further said, “The global shipbuilding market is somewhat hesitant, after the COVID-19 pandemic, with relatively few contracts for new buildings in many of our segments. Based on this, we are very pleased with our market share. Although the outlook for the future is characterised by some uncertainty in the new building market, we strongly believe that we will continue to further strengthen our position, as a preferred partner for our customers globally.

Designed for vessels requiring operational reliability

Brunvoll’s azimuth propulsion thrusters are designed for vessels with the highest requirements for operational reliability, with a minimum of downtime. The units are designed with focus on excellent hydrodynamic properties and maximum propulsion efficiency. These thrusters can be used for most vessel types.

Brunvoll is a supplier of complete propulsion and maneuvering systems, for all types of ships. This includes azimuth propulsion units, propellers with shaft lines and reduction gears, tunnel thrusters, rudders and steering machines, control and positioning systems, as well as energy systems. All development, design and production take place in Norway.
