As part of the SEA-EU (European University of the Seas) European Alliance for promoting and strengthening scientific collaboration between the University of Brest and five other multidisciplinary universities, the catamaran ‘Oceanograf’ undertakes her first oceanographic research cruise.

During the cruise, she will be calling at four European ports: Gdansk/Poland, Kiel/Germany, Brest/France and Cadiz/Spain.

Modern research vessels

Owned by the Faculty of Oceanography of Gdansk, ‘Oceanograf’ is one of the most modern research vessels operating in the Baltic Sea. Her shallow draught allows her to approach large estuaries.

With nine scientists on board during the present campaign, the aim is to analyse microplastics on the water surface and in the sediments, to take samples of gases found in the sediments and to take air samples, etc. After stopover in Gdansk, Kiel and Brest, the ‘Oceanograf’ has now set sail for Cadiz.

The Captain of the ‘Oceanograf’ has expressed his satisfaction with their service: “Thank you very much for excellent support and services. Appreciate your hospitality during our stay in port of Brest. We are proud to have been appointed agents for the ‘Oceanograf’ during her first research cruise. It is an interesting campaign, and we hope to be given the opportunity to welcome her to Brest again on future projects,” says Eline Roty, Assistant Manager Port Agency, Blue Water Brest. Eline Roty was the Coordinator of the port call at Brest.
