Blue Water’s Aid & Development team has assisted with bringing in humanitarian aid cargo, such as plastic sheeting, cleaning and hygiene kits and medicine to thousands of victims in Central America suffering from the flooding after category four and five hurricanes Eta and Iota.

Houses, roads, schools and hospitals in Honduras, Nicaragua, Guatemala and Belize were devastated during the record-breaking stormy season, and seven million people were affected by the two hurricanes within two weeks.

Blue Water’s team delivers humanitarian aid

We were contacted on a Friday in the late afternoon by a humanitarian aid organisation who needed to bring in aid cargo during the weekend. We managed to locate three trucks to load the cargo in Panama – the humanitarian hub for the many aid organisations in the region - and transport it by road through Costa Rica and Nicaragua up to Honduras for distribution by the local Red Cross," says Johnny Mortensen, Head of Blue Water’s Aid & Development team.

It was a 24/7 job due to the time zone difference as well as strict customs regulations and documentation. As the road along the coast up to Honduras was heavily congested and affected, our local partner had to conduct road surveys in advance, and we were also challenged by long lines of trucks at the borders. Fortunately, everything went well, and the cargo reached Honduras as planned.

Blue Water has a very strong network in Central America offering local services such as last-mile distribution, customs clearance, warehousing as well as road, air and sea freight.
