The construction of the tunnel link between Denmark and Germany is coming along. Blue Water has been aboard from the very beginning with local warehouse solutions and port services. Now, they have entered an agreement with Fehmarn Belt Contractors (FBC) winning more activities.

We are very proud that FBC has chosen Blue Water, and we are certain that our local roots in the community and experience with large international projects will contribute positively to the project,” says Klaus Odby, Port Agency Manager at Blue Water.

Offering husbandry solutions

In relation to the project, they have opened office in Rødby, Denmark, from where the Danish side of the tunnel takes its starting point. With this position, they cover all ports in Lolland and Falster with experienced staff.

Our agreement with FBC covers clearing of ships, crew change services, documentation and reporting to relevant authorities. To shipping lines with ships on the project, we also offer husbandry solutions which is a flexible service offered to vessels in port and also offshore. In this way, the vessel and staff can save time and costs,” says Pernille Marcussen, Assistant Manager, Port Agency, Blue Water Rødby.

Recreational natural resort

The tunnel link is so far Denmark’s biggest and most expensive construction project

In Rødby, a new work port is being constructed by FBC. The work port will be the location for casting of tunnel elements, and from here the heavy elements will be shipped out.

FBC, which is a joint venture between Boskalis and Van Oord, is also responsible for the excavation of a 16-kilometre long trench in the seabed. The excavated material will be reused creating a recreational natural resort on the Danish side of the Fehmarn Belt.

The tunnel link is so far Denmark’s biggest and most expensive construction project, and it is expected to be completed by 2029. The tunnel is to be operated climate friendly by green power and with focus on energy efficiency and future-proof solutions.
