Created in 1978, the Route de Rhum has become a classic of transatlantic solo races. It counts 3.542 consecutive miles, non-stop, from Saint-Malo to Pointe-à-Pitre in Guadeloupe, for a race that takes place every four years and attracts the greatest champions of ocean sailing as well as a few amateurs, as a testimony to the spirit of this initiative.

Whatever happens, it will be important to sail smartly, so as not to damage the boat. In short, we will have to know how to ride the rough weather even in the trickiest moments,” comments Giancarlo Pedote.

Prysmian Group and Giancarlo Pedote partnership

Giancarlo Pedote adds, “We will have no choice but to deal with whatever comes our way. This is something that I have learned quite well over the course of several adventures, including the Vendée Globe. I have to take advantage of having a reliable vessel that I know well and that allows me to push fearlessly.

Valerio Battista, the Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of Prysmian Group, said “We will follow Giancarlo also in this new extraordinary adventure. Every time we see him sailing, we confirm our commitment to his endeavours in sailing, a sport that perfectly embodies Prysmian Group's values, such as ambition and the continuous pursuit of new challenges.

Focus on sustainability

Valerio Battista adds, “Moreover, this race is another opportunity to remind us of the importance of our focus on sustainability, because sailing is based on natural elements, such as wind and renewable energy, which are the key both for our business and - more in general – for the future of our planet.
