2023 has been a magnificent period for Newport Shipping in bringing new solutions to the market and growing its business for the needs of tomorrow's shipping industry.

In 2023 Newport Shipping executed 36 drydocking projects at its Tuzla Bay yard in Turkey, with other projects being completed at its partner shipyards in China and the rest of the world.

BWTS projects

Since the Ballast Water Management Convention (BWMC) has been ratified there has also been an increase in ballast water treatment systems (BWTS) projects that have also been completed.

In 2023 alone Newport Shipping has carried out 10 BWTS installations onboard vessels. In other work carried out, the company has seen 571 tonnes of steelwork carried out for various projects.

Trade show participation

Since living in a post-COVID world it was good to attend trade shows such as Nor-Shipping, Norway, Seawork, Southampton

The market seems buoyant and revived and full of gusto for tackling the challenges that lie ahead in meeting future environmental regulations. Newport Shipping's highlight was to showcase the latest development - NAV!

NAV Engineering & Technology

NAV Engineering & Technology is revolutionising the shipping industry with its cutting-edge hybrid-powered CTV designs. As a pioneering engineering and technology company, it is fully committed to driving sustainable solutions that deliver unmatched performance, efficiency, and environmental benefits.

As part of its latest developments, NAV has started the development of Crew Transfer Vessels (CTVs) which will designed and operated by NAV. A brand-new concept in vessel design and construction. Further to this NAV is also developing its HybriNav26, more about this to follow in 2024.

Network expansion

2023 also saw Newport Shipping expand its shipyard partner network with HRDD. Adding HRDD to its network of partner shipyards enables Newport Shipping to offer clients further services and docking options.

HRDD is one of the pioneering ship repair yards in China and will help support Newport Shipping's activities in China.

Environment solutions

Newport Shipping signed an LOI with ZEME which set out an agreement to help it develop sales base leads

Also, expanding on its business to provide environment solutions to the market. Newport Shipping signed an LOI with ZEME which set out an agreement to help it develop sales base leads.

Newport Shipping will be working in a two-way relationship in that Newport Shipping will provide its full project management service and access to its 16 partner yards across the globe for projects and in turn, help ZEME grow its market outside of China while providing ZEME's environmental solutions to its clients. 

Ship repair and retrofit

Further to this Newport Shipping signed a co-operation agreement with NSB for the provision of maritime services and products.

This cooperation agreement also includes NSB's ship-widening design for containerships in conjunction with turnkey service provider Newport Shipping's specialised solutions for ship repair and retrofit services.
