Under the state contract with the Radioactive Waste Management Enterprise (RosRAO Federal State Unitary Enterprise, is a part of State Atomic Energy Corporation Rosatom), FESCO Transportation Group (FESCO) performed the transportation of nine multisectional blocks of nuclear-powered submarines and a tanker from Kamchatka Territory to the decommissioning site in Primorye Territory.

Logistics services

FESCO provided the full range of logistics services to the client, including transportation and towing. Transportation of these items was a unique technological operation – 3rd generation blocks of three, four, and five sections and the tanker were all transported at the same time.

A special semi-submersible vessel was chartered for this delivery. FESCO engineers together with designers from The Lazurit Central Design Bureau and engineers from TransEngineering Company LLC developed a project on preparing the deck and lodgment constructions for each item considering its technical characteristics.

Transport preparation

The preparation lasted 10 days and took place in Shanghai under the control of FESCO and RosRAO experts

Over 300 pre-set elements and special mountings were installed at the vessel. The preparation lasted 10 days and took place in Shanghai under the control of FESCO and RosRAO experts. After the preparation works were carried out, the vessel left the port of Shanghai and was headed to the Kamchatka Territory.

Four tugs were simultaneously used for loading and transporting the blocks and the tanker to the destination point in Primorye Territory. Total transport time was 22 days.
