The One Ocean Summit, a global summit dedicated to the protection of the oceans, organized by French President - Emmanuel Macron, opens for three days from Feb 9 to Feb 11, 2022. On this occasion, CMA CGM reaffirms its commitment to the protection of the climate and biodiversity.
The CMA CGM Group is determined to act as quickly as possible to limit the effects of global warming on our planet and the damage to biodiversity. It also takes concrete decisions on a daily basis, true to its CSR approach, which is aligned with the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals.
One Ocean Summit
The One Ocean Summit is also an opportunity to present the CMA CGM Group’s recent commitments
On February 11, Rodolphe Saadé, Chairman and the Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of the CMA CGM Group, will attend the high-level conference with French President, Emmanuel Macron, as well as with numerous Heads of Government and business leaders. He will propose a new concrete set of concrete actions to protect biodiversity and marine ecosystems.
The One Ocean Summit is also an opportunity to present the CMA CGM Group’s recent commitments and actions to preserve natural ecosystems.
Net zero carbon in 2050: a concrete commitment
At COP 26 in November 2021, Rodolphe Saadé has committed to achieving Net Zero Carbon Emissions by 2050. This commitment is based on actions that immediately initiate the transition to low-carbon transport and logistics:
- The CMA CGM Group continues to develop its fleet of dual fuel gas vessels, powered by LNG. A fleet that is already compatible with future technologies, such as bio-methane and e-methane. LNG is the most available advanced technology to preserve air quality and fight against ocean acidification.
- On April 8, 2021, CMA CGM launched the first low-carbon shipping service by choosing bio-methane, a green non-fossil gas produced from organic waste, among other things. This fuel allows our ships to reduce CO2 emissions by 67%. This fleet of ‘e-methane ready’ vessels will include 44 ships by 2024.
- The launch of the ‘ACT with CMA CGM +’ range of added-value services, which enables customers to choose these sustainable solutions and thus reduce or offset their greenhouse gas emissions. In 2021, 800,000 tons of CO2 were saved.
- It was then necessary to build and structure the alternative fuels industry. On July 5, 2021, the Group announced the launch of France's first bio-methane production project at the port of Marseille Fos, in partnership with EveRé, Elengy and TotalEnergies.
- In November 2021, the Group took another step forward with a strategic partnership with Engie to promote and develop the production of synthetic methane, including e-methane. The objective is to pool R&D to build the energies of tomorrow.
