Babcock Canada (Babcock), a globally renowned company in submarine support, has signed a Technical Cooperation Agreement with HD Hyundai Heavy Industries Co., Ltd (HD HHI) to collaborate on the Canadian Patrol Submarine Project (CPSP).
The CPSP was established by the Canadian Department of National Defence to research procurement options for its next generation submarine.

This Technical Cooperation Agreement enables both the major marine organisations to share their respective capabilities in shipbuilding and submarine sustainment in support of the Canadian Patrol Submarine Project - CPSP.
Babcock is a global expert in maintaining, modifying, and extending the life of in-service submarines, supporting Canadian, United Kingdom (UK) and Australian Navies.
HD HHI and Babcock to leverage their expertise
HD HHI will leverage its world-class construction capabilities, while Babcock will contribute its expertise in providing in-service support and sustainment of Canada’s Victoria Class submarines, which it has been doing since 2008.
John Howie, Babcock’s Chief Corporate Affairs Officer, signed the agreement alongside Young-seuk Han, the Vice Chairman and Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of HD Hyundai Heavy Industries Co., Ltd (HD HHI), at the International Maritime and Defence Exhibition (MADEX) 2023 in Busan, South Korea.

Young-seuk Han said: “Through close collaboration between leading companies in Canada and South Korea in shipbuilding and defence industry, we will propose the optimal submarine to the Canadian Patrol Submarine Project, equipped with the latest technology in both Canada and South Korea.”
Support for Royal Canadian Navy’s Maritime programmes
The agreement cements Babcock’s commitment to supporting the Royal Canadian Navy’s current and future Maritime programmes.
