HMM - The Neptune Declaration on Seafarer Wellbeing and Crew Change 2021

HMM joins to the Neptune Declaration on Seafarer Wellbeing and Crew Change. At this moment, many seafarers have been working on board ships around the world, in order to maintain global trade, inspire of the risk of being exposed to the COVID-19 virus.

Not only HMM, but also more than 300 companies and organisations have been aware that they have a responsibility to protect seafarers' safety.

The Neptune Declaration states four main actions:

  • Recognising seafarers as ‘key workers’ and giving them priority access to COVID-19 vaccines,
  • Establishing and implementing gold-standard health protocols based on existing best practices,
  • Increasing collaboration between ship operators and charterers to facilitate crew changes, and
  • Ensuring airline connectivity between key maritime hubs for seafarers.
