On May 12, 1991, with the approval from the State Council, Tianjin Port Free Trade Zone was established in the seaport area of Tianjin Port; on October 15, 2002, the municipal Party committee of Tianjin approved the development and construction of Tianjin Airport Economic Area, so Tianjin Port Free Trade Zone was further expanded.
